The Band

Sonder Rooftop 2

The word “live” has many meanings. As a verb it can mean to have life, or even to pursue a positive and satisfying existence. As an adjective it could mean in use or ready for use. As an adverb, it means the opposite of recorded. All of these definitions help to inform the experience of being in, and enjoying the music of Buffalo, New York’s Sonder.

Sonder is ready: ready to engage their fans with their live electronic, progressive rock tinged jam/funk sound. They’re full of life and positivity, and their live performance has created a buzz that any up-and-coming band would covet. The band—made up of drummer and vocalist Ryan Bress, keyboardist and synth bassist Andrew Buchwald, and guitarist/bassist Mike Pfeil—have one main goal: to come together as a whole and push the idea of live music, and life, as far as they can. This is immediately evident when listening to the band’s tight, yet groovy prog-funk electronic sounds—or even better, when experiencing those sounds live.

They’ve concocted this goal—to live through their music— by observing some of the world’s most inspiring bands like Pink Floyd, Lotus, Phish & The New Deal, —and by exploring some of the most respected venues in their hometown of Buffalo, including Soundlab, Iron Works, Nietzsche’s, and the Town Ballroom. Sonder has as have some of the famous acts they’ve shared the stage with including The Werks, Eliot Lipp, Dr. Fameus, Consider The Source, and will be seen in plenty of the North East music festivals.

As far as the band’s songwriting process goes, its a lesson in equality. As a trio, each member has as much influence over a song as the man standing next to him.

“Each of us bring individual ideas to the table, just as ideas first, then we as a whole refine those ideas to form songs—100 percent equally written.”

What started as a group of good friends just goofing around in the basement has quickly evolved into Sonder, a serious musical project that travels with a full package of lighting and live projections bringing a unique live performance. Coming off of their
first EP “Cymatics” Sonder has taken a huge step onto the scene and has BIG things in store for 2015.
